We ran some ROI stats on exotic bet configurations. In this case, we looked at Trifectas using a Longshot (LS) in the win position and then again with the LS in the 2nd place position. The top Bet Configuration ROI was:

First: Longshot | Second: Top 1-4 ranked horses | Third: Top 1-6 ranked horses

The second chart shows what happens if you single the LS for 2nd place. If you do that, it only seems worth it to single the top 1 or 2 ranks for 1st place. For third place, it is best to bet the top 5 or 6 ranks deep depending on your race configuration. Running the same data for exacta and superfecta bets produced similar results.

The Betacus system is running at 15% for picking a Longshot to win and we come up with only 2-3 longshot selections per track/per day. That means payouts do not come in regularly.
