This report presents results of longshot selections and betting analysis using the Betacus system.
There are 2300 races in the Betacus database for the year 2025. Of these races, 345 horses were selected as the longshot pick. Selections were based on metrics for speed, pace, class, form, jockey, trainer, AI analysis and a consensus of expert selections (average of 12 expert pick recommendations per race).
Betting $2 for a win bet produced a 12% ROI. By comparison, the place bet produced a 4% ROI and the show bet produced a 0% ROI.
The distribution of results for the 345 longshot selections was Win (53), Place (54), Show (49), etc.
This chart presents the win bet payouts by date.
We took a look at the ROI using the longshot picks in exotic betting, starting with the exacta. Using the longshot pick for first place, then any of the top 4 ranks for second place produced the higher ROI. Using the longshot in the 2nd place position only produced a positive ROI when boxed with the top ranked horse.
Test Bet
We decided to place 2 test bets based on results of our recent analysis (Race 3 at Parx on December 9). The #3 horse was ranked 5th but Betacus had the horse ranked 2nd. We put the #3 in for the win and to cover for second, we put in an exacta box with the Betacus top rank (7). Things turned out well. The $4 win bet paid $32 and the cover $2 exact box paid $26.
